Story of a simple curiosity turned into heartfelt mission!
“In a world more connected than ever, something wasn’t adding up. Why were so many out there still single? Where was the disconnect? Surely there must be a way to connect them all in a meaningful way. Coz let’s face it, loneliness can weigh heavy.”
Jeny and Jiwan met in The Netherlands in 2008 in a small, nondescript university town bordering Germany. Jiwan had just been transferred to the Dutch subsidiary office from Delhi, around the same time Jeny arrived for her Masters. Through most of his life Jiwan lived in-between boarding schools and bachelor pads in India, having rarely spent time in Nepal while growing up, whereas Jeny was the quintessential Kathmandu girl, deeply family oriented and who rarely ventured outside of the valley. Their worlds could not have been more different! And yet long story short, sparks flew (thick and fast), they tied the knot in 2011, and are now settled in the UK with two boisterous boys in tow. Funny how these things work, right?
So when they moved to the UK in 2015, they were quickly drawn into the buzz of many vibrant Nepali communities residing there. Almost immediately one thing became clear: everyone seemed to be looking for a match for their sons and daughters, nephews and nieces and so on. The problem was silent yet deep, the scale of it epidemic. And needless to say, no one was addressing it.
The couple soon realized this was a problem that needed dire fixing. They rolled up their sleeves and dug into the matter, speaking to countless Nepali singles and getting real feedback. What they discovered was truly eye opening! Most Nepali dating apps and matrimonial sites were mere clones of Western templates, completely missing the mark on Nepali culture, values and sensitivity!
And that’s when it clicked! Nepali singles needed a service that was modern and convenient, yet deeply rooted in tradition. It had to be discreet, personalized and empowering, combining cutting-edge tech with real human guidance. It had to appeal to the modern Nepali woman and other traditionally overlooked groups.
Result: Driven by a mission to help Nepali singles everywhere, the husband-wife duo went back to the drawing board, completely re-imagining Nepali matchmaking from the ground up, and built a service highly tailored to the needs of the community.
And like all things it may not be perfect. But they think they are pretty close!
